NAGPUR, Mar 20: Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that selfish interests and the urge for dominance are the main causes of global conflicts, asserting that lasting peace can only come through unity, discipline, and adherence to dharma.
Addressing a gathering in Nagpur, he said the world has experimented with various ideas over the past 2,000 years to resolve conflicts, but with limited success.
He pointed out that religious intolerance, forced conversions, and notions of superiority and inferiority continue to persist.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the office of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in the city.
Bhagwat emphasised that India’s ancient wisdom teaches that “all are connected and one,” and called for a shift from conflict to harmony and cooperation. He added that even modern science is gradually moving towards this understanding.
Highlighting the role of conduct, he said dharma should not remain limited to scriptures but must be reflected in everyday behaviour. Discipline and adherence to moral values, he noted, require consistent practice and often involve personal sacrifice.
Reiterating his point, Bhagwat said that while India believes in humanity and collective well-being, many others focus on struggle and the survival of the fittest, stressing that the world needs harmony, not conflict. (Agency)
