Bandipora, Mar 7: Authorities on Saturday suspended vehicular movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road following fresh snowfall at Razdan Top, officials said.

The decision was taken as a precaution after the snowfall made the high-altitude Razdan Pass slippery and unsafe for traffic. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, Mukhtar Ahmad, confirmed that traffic on the road connecting Bandipora with the remote Gurez Valley has been suspended until further notice.

“Due to snowfall at Razdan Top and as a safety measure, movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road shall remain suspended till further orders,” the SDM said.

Officials said that snowfall at the pass reduced visibility and created slippery conditions, prompting authorities to halt traffic to prevent any untoward incidents.

Razdan Top, situated at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, is the main road link between Gurez Valley and the rest of Kashmir via Bandipora district. The road is frequently affected during winter due to heavy snowfall and harsh weather.

Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, and the road will be reopened once weather conditions improve and clearance operations are completed. (Agency)
