Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that it is unfair to associate every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir with terrorism, stressing that generalizing suspicion towards all Kashmiris makes it harder to maintain peace and trust.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, the CM told news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that he had expressed his reaction on the very first day of the incident. “No amount of condemnation is enough. The brutal killing of innocent people is unacceptable — no religion allows such violence. The investigation is underway, and those responsible must be punished,” he said.
Omar Abdullah emphasized that only a handful of individuals seek to disturb peace and harmony in the region. “Not every person in Jammu and Kashmir is a terrorist or linked to terrorism. Unfortunately, when we begin to look at every Kashmiri Muslim with suspicion, it becomes difficult to guide society on the right path,” he added.
He reiterated that the guilty must face strict punishment, but innocent people should not suffer. He also noted that at times, even educated individuals have been found involved in such acts, but the focus should remain on identifying and punishing only the real culprits. (Agencies)
