Workers cleaning a train at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai were left shocked on Saturday after discovering the body of a five-year-old boy inside a toilet dustbin.

The incident occurred in the AC coach of the Kushinagar Express (22537) during routine cleaning in the early hours of the morning. One of the staff immediately alerted the station management, following which railway officials and police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.

According to the probe, the boy’s mother had lodged a police complaint on Friday night in Surat, Gujarat, accusing her 25-year-old cousin, Vikash Shah, of kidnapping her son.

The Kushinagar Express operates between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Railway and Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said CCTV footage is being examined to determine how the child died and how his body was placed inside the toilet dustbin. (Agencies)
