Kishtwar, January 6: A police party of Police Station Kishtwar, headed by PSI Arush Sharma, was deployed for routine patrolling in the areas of Malipeth, Bus Stand and adjoining localities.
During the late Monday evening patrol, when the police party reached near the Bus Stand, one person was noticed behaving suspiciously. On being stopped and questioned, he disclosed his identity as Mohd Rajab, S/o Mohd Anwar Naik, R/o Sarawan, Keshwan.
During his personal search, police recovered 211 grams of charas-like substance from his possession. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 05/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kishtwar. The accused was arrested on the spot and further investigation is underway.
Kishtwar Police have intensified their crackdown against drug peddlers and adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics. During the year 2025, Kishtwar Police registered around 28 FIRs under the NDPS Act, leading to several arrests and recoveries. The district police have reiterated that strict action will continue against those involved in drug trafficking to safeguard the youth and ensure a drug-free society. (Agencies)
