Srinagar | November 9:

Leader of Opposition (LoP) Shri Sunil Sharma on Saturday launched a strong attack on Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of political hypocrisy and double standards. He alleged that the National Conference (NC) leadership was deliberately attempting to mislead the public to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) growing influence in the region.

Speaking at a rally in Ompora, Budgam, Sharma claimed that the NC was engaging in misinformation campaigns for electoral advantage.

In an unusual move, he publicly challenged Omar Abdullah to swear on the Holy Quran before the people of Jammu & Kashmir, asserting that the Chief Minister had not engaged in any covert political manoeuvres or secret deal-making.

“People deserve leaders who stand by truth and principles, not those who shift positions to suit their ambitions,” Sharma said.

The LoP also alleged that Omar Abdullah made attempts to establish an alliance with the BJP following the 2014 Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections, but the BJP leadership declined the proposal, maintaining its “commitment to integrity and transparency.”

Sharma further criticised the NC, calling on its leadership to “stop playing double politics” and introspect over alleged political failures. He said the BJP continues to expand its reach across Jammu & Kashmir and remains dedicated to the goals of development, peace, and public service.

“The BJP’s politics is rooted in development, nationalism, and service to the people — not opportunism or deceit,” he added.

He reaffirmed that the party will keep working for the peace, progress, and prosperity of all citizens in the Union Territory without discrimination.
