Kishtwar, May 5: The Department of Youth Services & Sports (YSS) Kishtwar successfully conducted the grand finale of the U/17 Boys Cricket Tournament “Leagues of Classics” under the ongoing 100 Day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, themed “Choose Sports Not Drugs.”
The tournament saw enthusiastic participation from teams representing 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing strong sportsmanship, discipline, and unity among youth.
The final match between Baramulla and Anantnag turned out to be a thrilling contest. In a nail-biting finish, Baramulla emerged victorious by 1 wicket, chasing the target in the final over with remarkable composure.
The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma as the Chief Guest, while Principal GHSS Boys Ashok Kumar was present as Guest of Honour.
The tournament was held under the guidance of Director General YSS J&K Anuradha Gupta and supervised by DYSSO Kishtwar Jaffer Haider Sheikh.
A large number of sports enthusiasts, officials, and students witnessed the final, highlighting the growing sports culture and the role of sports in promoting a drug-free society.
At the prize distribution ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated both winning and runner-up teams with trophies, medals, and certificates.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized the importance of sports in channelizing youth energy towards positive activities and promoting a disciplined, healthy lifestyle. He reiterated the message of a drug-free society through active participation in sports.
He also highlighted that initiatives like the 100 Day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, launched on April 11, 2026 by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, play a crucial role in sensitizing youth about the dangers of drug abuse. He appreciated the efforts of YSS Kishtwar for organizing the large-scale tournament and providing a platform for young talent.
