Kishtwar, July 10: In a major boost to urban infrastructure in Kishtwar, the Director, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu & Kashmir has accorded administrative approval of ₹5 crore under the UT Capex Budget 2026–27 (New Works) for the construction of a new modern bus stand in Kishtwar.
The approval follows sustained efforts by MLA Kishtwar Shagun Parihar, who had formally taken up the matter with the Director, Urban Local Bodies, highlighting the urgent need for a modern bus terminal in view of the inadequate and congested condition of the existing bus stand.
In her communication, the MLA pointed out that the present bus stand has become incapable of handling the increasing volume of public transport vehicles and commuters, resulting in traffic congestion, inconvenience to passengers and inadequate public amenities. She urged the department to develop a modern bus terminal on the pattern of facilities available in major cities.
The proposed bus stand is envisaged to include modern passenger amenities such as spacious waiting halls, ticketing counters, adequate parking facilities, sanitation blocks, commercial spaces, proper lighting, digital information systems and other essential infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient and comfortable services for commuters.
The ₹5 crore administrative approval marks a significant step towards addressing Kishtwar’s long-pending demand for a modern transport hub. The project is expected to improve traffic management, enhance commuter convenience and strengthen the district’s urban infrastructure.
The work will be executed by the Urban Local Bodies Department in accordance with the approved technical specifications, financial norms and other government guidelines.
