RAMBAN, MAY 11: Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan on Monday disbursed compensation amounting to ₹12.10 lakh among the legal heirs of deceased road accident victims and a minor injured in a road mishap in Ramban district.
The compensation was provided under the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund based on cases submitted by the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO).
Officials informed that ₹1 lakh each was provided to the families of 12 deceased road accident victims, while ₹10,000 was disbursed to a minor injured in an accident as immediate financial assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment towards extending timely relief and support to families affected by tragic road accidents.
He directed concerned officers to ensure that all such cases are processed promptly so that deserving beneficiaries receive assistance without unnecessary delay under the welfare schemes meant for public support.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the ARTO Ramban to intensify road safety awareness campaigns across the district and ensure strict enforcement of traffic safety measures to reduce road accidents.
He emphasised the need to sensitise drivers, transport operators, and the general public about responsible driving practices, adherence to traffic rules, use of seat belts and helmets, and overall road safety awareness.
He further directed the Motor Vehicles Department to strengthen enforcement and continue public outreach programmes aimed at preventing accidents and saving lives.
