Police Cite Financial Gain, Gang Dominance and Creating Terror as Possible Motives; Gang’s Claim Links Attack to Actor’s Association with Salman Khan
Mumbai: The firing incident involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff has drawn fresh attention after Mumbai Police told a court that the alleged attack linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was carried out to gain financial benefits, establish dominance and spread fear.
According to the police remand application reported by The Indian Express on October 24, investigators placed the incident in a category similar to other high-profile firing cases in which intimidation and extortion were suspected motives. <Cite refs={[“turn853761search0”]}/>
The gang’s alleged explanation, however, was different. A person claiming to represent the gang reportedly said Shroff had been targeted because of his association with actor Salman Khan and because he had allegedly ignored a warning.
Salman Khan Connection Under Investigation
According to reports citing Mumbai Police sources, the shooters had initially conducted reconnaissance around Salman Khan’s residence but were deterred by the security arrangements. They allegedly shifted their attention to Shroff after learning about his routine through social media posts.
Investigators are examining the planning behind the attack and the alleged role of Anil Pandit, described in reports as an associate of the Bishnoi gang. The police have also been investigating the supply of firearms, communication between the accused and their alleged handlers, and the possibility that other influential people had been surveyed. <Cite refs={[“turn853761search2″,”turn853761search4”]}/>
What Police Told the Court
In seeking custody of the accused, Mumbai Police said further questioning was necessary to investigate the conspiracy, their alleged links with other suspects and the procurement of weapons. Investigators also referred to an alleged misfire during a firing practice session at a hotel.
The case has expanded beyond the shooters, with investigators pursuing the alleged network involved in arranging and supplying firearms and providing logistical support.
The alleged gang connection and the motive remain matters under investigation. The police’s assessment and the gang’s purported claim are separate accounts, and the allegations must be established through the legal process.
