A pilot threatened to intentionally crash that plane into a local Walmart in Tupelo, Mississippi, police said Saturday.
The Walmart in Tupelo was evacuated after a plane pilot crashed into it threatened to rush into the store, the Tupelo Police Department said.
“At approximately 05:00 on 9/3/2022, TPD was notified that a pilot of an aircraft (possibly King Air) flew over Tupelo,” police wrote on Facebook. They said the pilot contacted E911 and threatened to intentionally crash into Walmart on West Main.”TPD has worked with WalMart West and Dodges on West Main to evacuate stores and disperse people as possible. TPD was also able to speak directly to the pilot,” added .Police said the situation is ongoing with TPD and all emergency services in the area at this time. They are on alert.
“Citizens are asked to avoid this area until the green light is given. With the mobility of such an aircraft, the danger zone is much larger even than Tupelo,” said TPD.
More information will be released as appropriate, police added.
