Two Arrested in Separate NDPS Cases in Kishtwar; Illegal Poppy Cultivation Busted

Jammu/Kishtwar, April 24:
Continuing its drive against drug menace, Kishtwar Police have registered two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested two individuals in connection with the cases.

In the first case, FIR No. 89/2026 under Sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kishtwar following reliable information about illegal cultivation of opium poppy by one Mansoor Ahmed, son of Abdul Aziz Sheikh, a resident of Bunjwar, Kishtwar.

Acting swiftly, the Investigating Officer PSI Balbir Singh, along with a police team and an Executive Magistrate, conducted a raid at the site. The team found illegally cultivated opium poppy crop, which was seized on the spot after completing all legal formalities in the presence of the Executive Magistrate.

The accused was apprehended at the scene and formally arrested. Further investigation is underway.

In another case, FIR No. 90/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act was registered after a patrolling party of Police Station Kishtwar apprehended one Mudassir Hussain Bagwan, son of Mehraj Din Bagwan, a resident of Bagwan Mohalla, Kishtwar.

During personal search, approximately 6.5 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. He was immediately taken into custody.

Notably, Mudassir Hussain Bagwan is a repeat offender with multiple NDPS cases registered against him, including FIR Nos. 271/2022, 91/2022, 14/2023, and 17/2023.

Police have reiterated their commitment to continue strict action against drug peddlers and illegal cultivation across the district.
