US President Donald Trump said Iran has prolonged negotiations for 47 years while lives have been lost during the standoff, asserting that he intends to resolve the issue “once and for all.”
Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “For 47 years, they’ve been talking and talking and talking. In the meantime, we’ve lost a lot of lives while they talk. Let’s see what happens.”
He added that significant US military assets have been deployed in the region. “Tremendous power has arrived, and additional power as you know, and other carriers are going out shortly. So we’ll see it through. Get it settled once and for all, and that’ll be good,” he said.
Trump indicated that US deployments are increasing, referencing the movement of a “very big carrier group.” He said he would prefer a negotiated settlement but described talks with Iran as difficult. He also mentioned “Midnight Hammer,” suggesting prior military action.
The US President further reiterated his claim that he ended eight wars in 10 months, calling the Russia–Ukraine conflict the most challenging. “We are also bringing peace all over the world. I ended eight wars in just 10 months. We have a couple more to go, but one in particular, Russia–Ukraine. It’s a mess. It’s a horrible thing. I think we’ll get there. It takes two to tango,” he said.
Trump made the remarks during a visit to Fort Bragg, where he criticised his predecessor Joe Biden and addressed supporters. According to CNN, he also criticised the decision during the Biden administration to rename the base. Originally named after a Confederate general, the base was renamed Fort Liberty in 2023 and later reverted to Fort Bragg, this time honouring a World War II paratrooper with the same surname.
