Washington, April 6: As tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate, US President Donald Trump has indicated an extension of the deadline amid increasing pressure on Tehran to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!”

The remark followed a strongly worded message in which he reiterated his demand for Iran to either “make a deal” or “open the Strait,” warning that Tuesday could mark a major escalation targeting Iran’s energy and infrastructure sectors.

Trump had first issued the ultimatum late last month, initially giving Iran 48 hours to reopen the key waterway. The deadline was later extended multiple times, most recently to Monday, April 6, before being pushed further, according to reports.

In an earlier interview with Axios, Trump said there was still “a good chance” for a deal but warned of severe consequences if negotiations failed, adding that discussions remain ongoing.

Addressing concerns about civilian impact, he suggested that many Iranian citizens oppose their government and would support decisive action. He also asserted that the US would not withdraw from the situation midway.

Previously, Trump claimed that a major bridge in Iran had been struck and urged Tehran to reach an agreement before it was “too late,” warning of further consequences.

The developments come amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, with diplomatic efforts continuing alongside increasingly sharp rhetoric from both sides. (Agency)
