Jammu: Fruit growers have demanded early restoration of about six thousand fruit laden trucks which have been reportedly stuck on National Highway brewing resentment amongst them as they are facing insurmountable hardships on account of fruit laden trucks being halted for several hours as the fruit being perishable in nature and if the fruits do not reaches in a time bound manner to the respective destinations it will be rotten and incure huge losses to them,the fruit growers alleged.
It is pertinent to mention here that Fruit growers called on Lieutenant Governor earlier in this regard and he had assured them that the matter will be taken up with the administration to ensure hassle free movement of Fruits loaded trucks. Even IGP Traffic Vikramjeet Singh also have a hectic deliberations with the fruit growers and he divulged that all stake holders have been taken on board in order to ensure free movement of fruit laden trucks.
Expressing their anger and discontent a group of Fruit growers divulged that despite assurances made by the LG and administration, still the trucks were stuck on National Highway which aggravated our hardships adding, the government now has to compensate us for the losses we suffered as the fruits were getting rotten due to constant stoppage of the trucks.
Since yesterday trucks about six thousand in number were halted on NH which compounded our miseries. We urge the administration to do needful to clear the NH so that we could be able to reach well in time to respective destinations. Failing which our fruits will got rotten which will incure huge losses to us they further lamented.
A senior official from the administration asking not to be named said due to heavy rains since yesterday in Cafeteria Morh in district Ramban shooting of stones occured as a result the traffic movement was stopped in order to avert any untoward incident,the official lamented.
The administration is on Job on war footing basis in terms of clearing the NH so that these fruit laden trucks be given first preference to move without any hindrance rather this traffic bottlenecks occured due to the rolling stones from the hillocks otherwise these fruit laden trucks would have been reached to their respective destinations by now”he added.
