Teacher Killed, 20 Injured as Bus Overturns in North Kashmir’s Handwara

Eyewitnesses told Greater Kashmir that the bus skidded off the road and overturned. Soon after the incident, locals, police, and Army personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

A government school teacher lost his life and at least 20 others were injured after a passenger bus overturned in the Behnipora area of Rajwar, in north Kashmir’s Handwara, on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses told Media that the bus skidded off the road and overturned. Following the incident, locals, police, and Army personnel immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

The injured were immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for treatment.

Dr. Ajaz Bhat, Superintendent of the Associated District Hospital at GMC Handwara, confirmed that at least 20 injured persons were brought to the facility. “The injured are under close observation and are being provided necessary treatment. Their condition will be assessed in detail before anything further can be said,” he stated.

A police officer said that the cause of the accident is under investigation, adding that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle while navigating a sharp curve.  (Agencies)
