Srinagar, Jan 30 : Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday expressed “deep anguish” over the alleged brutal assault on two Kashmiri shawl vendors in Uttarakhand’s Vikas Nagar, saying the incident reflects a “disturbing pattern of communal profiling” against Kashmiris outside the Union Territory.
Addressing a congregation at Srinagar’s Jama Masjid, the Mirwaiz highlighted the attack on 18-year-old Tabish and his brother Danish, who were reportedly assaulted with iron rods and sustained serious injuries.
He said such incidents in states like Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh heighten safety concerns and anxiety for thousands of Kashmiris who travel to different parts of India during the winter months to earn a livelihood.
Urging authorities to take the matter seriously, the Mirwaiz called for ensuring the safety of Kashmiris outside Jammu and Kashmir and demanded an immediate end to the “targeting of vulnerable people.” (Agencies)
