Srinagar Youth Dies, Another Injured in Road Accident in Bandipora

A 19-year-old youth from Srinagar died, and another was injured after a truck collided with a scooty near Wullar Vantage in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday.

According to reports, both youths, residents of Batamaloo Srinagar, were riding the scooty when the accident occurred. They were rushed to District Hospital Bandipora, where one of them, identified as Irshad Manzoor, was declared dead on arrival, news agencies reported. The other injured youth is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman from Anantnag, who had been critically injured in a road accident in Banihal last week, succumbed to her injuries at SKIMS Soura on Monday.

The deceased woman has been identified as Naseema Bano, wife of Sheikh Mohammad Afzal, a resident of Lower Munda in Anantnag district. She sustained a severe head injury after being struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road at Banihal on August 8.

Following the accident, she was initially taken to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for urgent treatment. Due to the critical nature of her injuries, doctors referred her to SKIMS Soura in Srinagar, where she remained under intensive care.

Medical sources stated that despite continuous treatment and efforts by specialists, her condition worsened, and she passed away on Monday.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the vehicle involved in the incident.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old JCB driver who sustained serious injuries in an accident at Dedina area of Budgam on Sunday succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Hospital Srinagar on Monday morning.

According to reports, the mishap occurred during excavation work when the JCB overturned, trapping the driver inside. The victim was identified as Shah-e-Jahan, son of Jamaluddin Shan, a native of Goa residing in Budgam.

Eyewitnesses said locals, along with rescue personnel, quickly reached the scene and pulled the injured driver from the overturned machine. He was immediately taken to SMHS Hospital Srinagar and admitted to the trauma ward in critical condition.

Medical sources confirmed that despite intensive medical care, Shah-e-Jahan died in the early hours of Monday.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings. (Agencies)
