The first spell of snowfall, though limited to a few inches, transformed the picturesque Aru Valley in Pahalgam into a stunning winter wonderland, bringing smiles, excitement and renewed enthusiasm among tourists visiting the famed destination in South Kashmir.

According to news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), gentle snowflakes blanketed meadows, rooftops and pine-covered slopes, giving the entire valley a pristine white appearance and offering visitors a postcard-perfect setting. Tourists, including families and adventure enthusiasts, were seen clicking photographs, throwing snowballs and soaking in the serene beauty of the valley. Many visitors said that even light snowfall fulfilled their long-cherished dream of witnessing Kashmir’s winter charm.

“This is our first visit to Kashmir, and seeing Aru Valley covered in snow feels magical,” said Rakesh Kumar, a tourist from Delhi. “Even though the snowfall is just a few inches, it has completely changed the atmosphere. It feels like we are walking inside a movie scene.”

Another tourist, Neha Sharma from Mumbai, echoed similar sentiments, calling the snowfall a pleasant surprise. “We were not expecting snowfall during our stay, so this came as a wonderful experience. The weather is cold but comfortable, and the views are absolutely stunning. This light snowfall is perfect for enjoying without any inconvenience,” she said.

Local hoteliers and tour operators also welcomed the snowfall, noting that it has added to the seasonal charm. “Snowfall, even in small amounts, generates excitement among visitors. We have witnessed an increase in tourist movement in Aru after the snowfall,” said a local hotel owner. “Many tourists prefer light snowfall as it allows them to explore the area freely.”

Children appeared especially delighted, with many seen playing in the snow under the watchful eyes of their parents. “My kids have never seen snow before. They are extremely happy and don’t want to leave,” said a tourist from Gujarat.

Meanwhile, locals said such snowfall is normal for this time of the year and is beneficial for the region, particularly for tourism and water resources. “This snowfall is good for the valley. It refreshes the environment and enhances the beauty of Aru, attracting more tourists,” a local resident said.

Despite the dip in temperatures, authorities said roads leading to Aru Valley remain open and traffic is moving smoothly. Officials have advised tourists to follow safety guidelines and dress warmly, as temperatures are expected to fall further in the coming days.

With its snow-draped landscapes, serene surroundings and cheerful visitors, Aru Valley once again proved why it remains one of Kashmir’s most loved winter destinations, even with just a few inches of snowfall.  (Agencies)
