Srinagar, Jun 20: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday expressed concern over what she described as the growing normalisation of hate speech in the country, saying continued silence over such incidents only emboldens those seeking to divide society.

In a post on social media platform X, Mufti alleged that hate speech has become increasingly common under the BJP’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” and claimed that minorities, including Muslims, Christians, Dalits and Adivasis, are being pushed to the margins.

Referring to the alleged hate speech by Hindu Raksha Dal president Lalit Sharma targeting Muslim women and unborn children, Mufti said such rhetoric should not be ignored.

She also alleged that homes and mosques were being demolished with impunity and warned that the failure to speak out against hate speech weakens social harmony and encourages divisive forces.

Mufti urged people not to remain silent in the face of such incidents, stressing that upholding constitutional values and preserving communal harmony is a shared responsibility.
