New Delhi: On Monday, a petition requesting the cancellation of political parties’ registrations if their nomenclature contains religious symbols or names was filed with the Supreme Court.
According to Indian Express, after collecting submissions from the national government and the Election Commission, a bench of Justices M R Shah and Krishna Murari fixed the hearing date for October 18. The court also granted permission to the petitioner, Syed Waseem Rizvi, a former chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board, to include persons in the proceedings who he said were doing this.
