SBI Outage: UPI Payments Disrupted Due to Technical Glitch, Bank Provides Restoration Timeline

The State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday reported intermittent technical issues affecting its UPI services, causing temporary transaction failures for some customers. The bank, India’s largest public sector lender, shared the update via a post on X, acknowledging the disruption and assuring users that the matter is being addressed.

SBI said the issue is expected to be resolved by 12:45 pm IST on January 23, 2026, and apologized for the inconvenience caused to customers during the outage.

SBI Advises Use of UPI Lite
SBI has advised customers to use UPI Lite to ensure uninterrupted transactions while the technical issue persists. The bank said this alternative would allow users to continue payments until normal services are fully restored.

Bank Apologizes to Customers
SBI expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed that its teams are working to resolve the issue within the stated timeline. The bank did not provide further details on the cause of the disruption.

SBI Servers Reported Down on Downdetector
According to Downdetector, over 500 users have reported issues with SBI services, including online banking, mobile banking, and fund transfers. The outage appears to affect multiple cities, with the biggest impact seen in Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and other parts of the country.
