“Don’t push us to the brink,” NC warns Government of India
NC-Led Alliance Issues Stern Warning to Centre After Crucial Meeting in Srinagar
Srinagar: In a strong political message to the Centre, the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, led by the National Conference (NC), held a high-level meeting on Friday at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister to deliberate on recent developments, including the transfer of 48 JKAS officers by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
Chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and attended by around 46 MLAs, the meeting was described as a critical session to assess the growing tensions between the elected government and the LG’s office.
Following the meeting, NC Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, flanked by Congress leader and MLA Bandipora Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, addressed the media, issuing a clear and direct warning to the Government of India.
“Today’s meeting focused on key issues, including the Waqf Bill passed in Parliament. This Bill is against Muslims and minorities in the country, and we oppose it. Another critical issue was the mandate given by the people of Jammu and Kashmir to the NC-led government. We have once again demanded that the Government of India respect this mandate—it is non-negotiable,” Tanvir said.
He emphasized that the alliance’s patience should not be mistaken for weakness.
“We are making this appeal for the last time—not as a request but as a firm warning: Do not push us to the wall,” he cautioned.
Congress MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat also spoke to reporters, stating that both immediate and long-term concerns were discussed during the meeting.
“Some senior leaders couldn’t attend, but I was mandated to represent the Congress alongside other leaders. All MLAs in the government stand firmly behind the leader of the House,” Bhat said.
He affirmed that there was complete consensus among alliance members regarding sensitive matters such as the Waqf Bill and the public mandate.
“On these crucial issues, there is unanimous agreement that dialogue with the Centre is essential to reach a resolution,” he added.
The meeting signals growing unease within the J&K administration over perceived central overreach, with the ruling coalition reaffirming its demand for respect towards democratic processes and constitutional boundaries.
