Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has launched a new ‘Therapy Dog Programme’, featuring four toy poodles to help passengers de-stress while passing through security and departure lounges.
Available from Friday to Monday, the certified therapy dogs, accompanied by trained handlers, will be stationed for four hours daily at key points in both domestic and international departure areas. Passengers can choose to engage with the dogs through gentle petting sessions, enjoy a “fetch play” area with small toys, or visit a dedicated selfie zone.
The dogs only interact with willing travellers and are given breaks between shifts to ensure their well-being.
Airport authorities have issued a few guidelines for passengers: approach the dogs calmly, follow the handlers’ instructions, and avoid feeding or startling the animals. People with allergies are advised to maintain a safe distance, and parents are requested to supervise their children at all times.
Through this initiative, RGIA aims to reduce travel anxiety, uplift moods, and create a warm, welcoming environment for all its passengers.
