Addressing an event on Navkar Mahamantra Divas, PM Modi praised Jain values of non-violence, spiritual wisdom, and environmental consciousness, noting their relevance in today’s world.

He underlined the doctrine of Anekantavada, which encourages acceptance of diverse perspectives, and said the world needs this spirit now more than ever. “Jainism recognises the interdependence of life and discourages violence in all forms—this is a powerful message for peace and ecological harmony,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister noted that Jain influence is deeply embedded in India’s cultural and spiritual fabric, even pointing out the presence of tirthankara idols in the Parliament building. He said the Jain literature is the backbone of India’s spiritual richness, and the Government has launched initiatives like the digitisation of ancient texts and the declaration of Pali and Prakrit as classical languages.

PM Modi urged people to take nine pledges, including:

  • Saving water
  • Planting a tree in their mother’s memory
  • Promoting cleanliness
  • Supporting local products
  • Travelling domestically
  • Practising natural farming
  • Adopting millets for a healthy lifestyle
  • Reducing edible oil usage
  • Helping the underprivileged
  • Embracing sports and yoga

He also called on citizens to spread the message of unity and stand together with those who chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

Referring to the climate crisis, Modi said a sustainable lifestyle, long practiced by the Jain community, is the way forward and aligns with India’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

The Prime Minister also mentioned the return of over 20 ancient idols of tirthankaras from abroad and expressed concern over the disappearance of several important texts. He said the recently announced Gyan Bharatam Mission will aid in preserving this ancient knowledge.

Navkar Mahamantra Divas celebrates spiritual harmony and ethical living, with the collective chanting of the Navkar Mantra—honouring enlightened beings and inspiring personal transformation.
