President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday stated that Naxalites across the country are giving up violence and joining the mainstream. Addressing a ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ event in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, she said coordinated efforts by the Centre and state governments will make the elimination of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) possible.
“People have been abandoning the path of LWE and joining the mainstream of development in Chhattisgarh as well as across the country. With coordinated government efforts, the elimination of LWE will become possible,” she said, calling it “a very satisfying change.”
Highlighting tribal progress, President Murmu praised over 1,65,000 participants in the recently held Bastar Olympics and emphasized the role of women in society. She also lauded tribal cricketer Kranti Goud, noting her inspiring journey to India’s Women’s World Cup team as an example of courage, perseverance, and determination.
The President stressed the importance of preserving and promoting traditional sports, noting the natural talent of tribal communities in athletics. Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended the event, which coincides with the birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda, celebrated as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.’ (Agencies)
