Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon devotees undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra to support Jammu and Kashmir’s local economy by spending at least 10 percent of their travel budget on locally made products.

In a message addressed to pilgrims, the Prime Minister urged devotees to embrace the spirit of “Vocal for Local”, saying that buying local products would help strengthen the livelihoods of families, artisans and youth across the Union Territory.

Modi praised the hospitality of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the dedicated service of pony operators, pithoos, shopkeepers and other locals who assist pilgrims throughout the Yatra. He said their selfless contribution reflects the values of Sanatan culture and the spirit of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah”.

Describing the Amarnath Yatra as one of India’s most sacred spiritual traditions, the Prime Minister said the pilgrimage reflects the country’s unity in diversity, with devotees from different regions, languages and traditions coming together for the darshan of Lord Shiva.

The Prime Minister also urged pilgrims to observe five pledges during the Yatra—maintain cleanliness, follow all security and administrative advisories, support local businesses, gift a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign on Raksha Bandhan, and uphold the spirit of “Nation First” throughout the year.

He appreciated the efforts of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, the Indian Army, CRPF, J&K Police, ITBP, BSF, NDRF, healthcare workers, sanitation staff and volunteers for ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage.

Modi concluded by wishing all pilgrims a safe, peaceful and spiritually enriching Amarnath Yatra.(Agencies)
