Govt tells Assembly farmers already receive heavily subsidised power; no plan to write off pending dues

Jammu, Feb 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that no proposal is currently under consideration to waive outstanding electricity bills or arrears for small and marginal farmers in the Union Territory.

In a written reply to a query raised by Prof. Gharu Ram, the Minister In-charge of the Power Development Department (PDD) stated that the government has no plans to write off pending power dues.

The House was further informed that the DISCOMs are already supplying electricity to the agriculture sector at heavily subsidised tariff rates.(Agencies)
