New Delhi, Feb 14: Advocate M.S. Khan, counsel for Shaheen Saeed — one of the accused in the Delhi blast case — informed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed an application in court seeking to extend the investigation period from 90 to 180 days.
Speaking to ANI on Friday, Khan said the matter was heard in court and the investigation period has been extended by 45 days.
“The NIA filed an application to extend the investigation period of the seven accused from 90 to 180 days. The matter was heard in court, and the court has granted a 45-day extension,” the advocate said.
Earlier in the day, a Special NIA court at Patiala House Courts allowed an additional 45 days for the agency to complete its probe into the November 2025 Delhi blast case. The NIA had sought a 90-day extension, citing new evidence that had emerged during the investigation.
The court also extended the judicial custody of the seven accused till March 13.
The blast, described as high-intensity, occurred in a car near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Pitambar Dutt granted the 45-day extension following a closed-door hearing. Special Public Prosecutor Madhav Khurana, representing the NIA, argued that additional time was required to examine fresh evidence.
Opposing the plea, advocate M.S. Khan, along with advocate Rahul Sahani, contended that the investigation had already been completed within the stipulated 90-day period and that no further extension was necessary.
The NIA first arrested Aamir Rashid Mir on November 16, 2025. Subsequently, Jasir Bilal Wani, Mufti Irfan Ahmed, Dr Muzammil Shakeel, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed and Soyeb were arrested on different dates in connection with the case. (Agencies)
