Srinagar, May 14: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday described Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and narco-terrorism as the biggest challenges confronting Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that J&K Police will continue its intensified crackdown on drug traffickers and their interstate and cross-border networks.
Addressing a press conference at PCR Kashmir, the DGP said the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” has considerably strengthened anti-narcotics operations across the Union Territory and yielded encouraging results over the past few years.
He said J&K Police has achieved major success in tackling narcotics-related crimes since 2023, particularly in the seizure of contraband, attachment of illegally acquired properties, and preventive detention of habitual offenders.
The police chief said attachment of assets linked to drug trafficking witnessed a significant rise between 2023 and 2026, adding that J&K Police secured the third position at the national level in 2025 for action against narcotics-linked properties.
Highlighting preventive measures, the DGP said 240 PIT-NDPS detentions were executed during 2025, placing J&K Police at the top position in the country under the category. He added that registration of NDPS cases under the “Nasha Mukt” campaign recorded a sharp increase compared to the previous year.
He informed that police arrested 806 accused in 724 NDPS cases across Jammu and Kashmir. Among those arrested were notorious drug peddlers Gulzar Ahmad alias Love Gujar, wanted in 28 cases, and Avneet Singh alias Nagi, wanted in 17 cases in Jammu province.

He further stated that 97 properties worth Rs 41.85 crore linked to the narcotics trade were identified and attached during the campaign. He added that Anantnag Police alone attached properties worth Rs 6.17 crore in a single case.
In a major interstate operation, J&K Police also attached properties situated outside the Union Territory, including in Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Chandigarh, aimed at dismantling wider drug networks operating across states.
The DGP said Kulgam Police attached assets worth Rs 93 lakh in Jammu’s Beni Charana area to trace backward linkages in narcotics-related investigations.
He added that 41 properties worth nearly Rs 15 crore, identified as proceeds of drug trafficking, were demolished after completion of legal formalities. Police also destroyed illegal cultivation of poppy and cannabis spread over 117 kanals of land during the campaign.
Referring to monitoring of pharmaceutical establishments, the DGP said more than 5,238 chemists and drug stores were inspected across the UT, while legal action was initiated against 151 violators.
