Experienced politician Muzaffar Hussain Baig reportedly rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday in the presence of party leader Mehbooba Mufti. This reunion occurred during an event organized by the PDP to commemorate the eighth death anniversary of the party’s founder, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Baig participated in the function and also offered special prayers at Sayeed’s mausoleum in Bijbhera, south Kashmir. Confirming his return, PDP spokesperson Mohit Bhan stated, “Baig has returned to the PDP.” Baig, a co-founder of the PDP in the late 1990s, became the party’s patron after Sayeed’s death in 2016. Despite quitting the party in 2020 and being speculated to join Sajad Lone’s People’s Conference, Baig did not officially announce his status, while his wife Safina joined Lone’s party during that time.
The significance of Baig’s return to the PDP is noteworthy, particularly considering it comes less than four months before the Lok Sabha elections.
