New Delhi, Mar 28: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon MS Dhoni is set to miss the first two weeks of the IPL due to a calf injury, the franchise announced on Saturday.
“MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of TATA IPL 2026,” CSK said in a statement.
Since retiring from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni has continued to play in the IPL, and his participation remains a major talking point each season. Maintaining match fitness has become more challenging, as he plays only in the IPL.
Although Ruturaj Gaikwad leads the team as captain, Dhoni continues to be the de facto leader of the franchise, having been with CSK since 2008, except during the period the team was suspended from the competition.
In the previous IPL, Dhoni played 14 matches, batting lower down the order to provide the finishing touch to innings. He has also faced recurring knee issues since retiring from international cricket and underwent surgery in 2023.
CSK will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30. (Agencies)
