R N Ravi moves to West Bengal, V K Saxena shifts to Ladakh; Taranjit Singh Sandhu appointed Delhi Lieutenant Governor

New Delhi, March 6: President Droupadi Murmu effected a major administrative reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors across the country on Thursday, just ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

According to an official communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal, succeeding Dr C V Ananda Bose, who resigned earlier on Thursday.

As part of the comprehensive restructuring, Vinai Kumar Saxena has been transferred from his position as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to serve as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, while former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

In other key changes, Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has been named Governor of Telangana, and Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has been transferred to Maharashtra. Senior leader Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed Governor of Nagaland, and Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain will serve as Governor of Bihar.

Additionally, Kavinder Gupta, the outgoing Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will hold additional charge as Governor of Tamil Nadu.

These appointments will take effect from the dates on which the respective appointees assume charge of their offices, according to the official communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta formally welcomed the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, expressing confidence that Delhi will benefit from his extensive diplomatic experience.

“Heartfelt welcome and congratulations to Delhi’s newly appointed Honorable Lieutenant Governor, Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu Ji. We are confident that under your guidance, the capital will continue to progress in public welfare initiatives. My best wishes for your successful tenure,” Gupta said in a post on X.

The Chief Minister also lauded the outgoing Lieutenant Governor, V K Saxena, for his dedication to Delhi’s development.

“For most of your tenure, even amidst diverse challenges, you have discharged your duties with patience, restraint, and constitutional propriety. Your commitment to transparency and public welfare in Delhi will always be remembered. Congratulations on your new responsibility as the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, and best wishes for a glorious tenure,” she added. (Agency)
