Jammu, March 13:
A potentially dangerous situation was averted on Friday after the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) along with a team of Kishtwar Police safely destroyed a live mortar shell found near Bindraband, about 3 kilometres from Kishtwar town.
According to official sources, police received information about the presence of suspected explosive material in the Bindraband area. Acting swiftly on the input, a police team rushed to the spot and secured the entire area to ensure the safety of the local residents.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of the DySP Operations of Kishtwar Police. After confirming that the object was a live mortar shell, the Bomb Disposal Squad was immediately called to the site.
Following standard safety procedures, the Bomb Disposal Squad carried out a controlled blast at the location and successfully destroyed the live shell without causing any damage or casualties.
Police officials said that timely action by the security personnel prevented any untoward incident in the area. The surroundings were thoroughly checked after the blast to ensure that no other explosive material was present.
Authorities have urged the public to immediately inform the police if any suspicious or explosive-like object is found so that necessary action can be taken promptly.
