Srinagar, May 14: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated the ‘Shaurya Gatha’ Complex at SM Hill in Tangdhar, Karnah area of Kupwara district, marking a major step towards promoting battlefield tourism, heritage preservation, and border area development.
The Lieutenant Governor lauded the Northern Command, Chinar Corps, Indian Army engineers, security personnel, and local residents for completing the project in a short span of time. He said the complex stands as a tribute to the bravery and supreme sacrifices of Indian soldiers, calling it a source of pride and inspiration for future generations.
He stated that initiatives like Shaurya Gatha under the Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan programme will open new avenues for economic development in border areas, including homestays, local crafts, tourism opportunities, and youth entrepreneurship.
Highlighting regional development, the LG said Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a new era of peace, progress, and prosperity, while also drawing a contrast with the situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), reiterating that J&K is and will remain an integral part of India.
He also noted that seven villages in Tangdhar and Karnah have been included under the Vibrant Village Programme, which will improve infrastructure, livelihood opportunities, and living standards in the region.
Emphasising connectivity, the LG highlighted the strategic importance of the Sadhna Tunnel, saying it will ensure all-weather access and boost trade, healthcare, education, and disaster response in the remote border belt.
Calling for public participation, he urged citizens across the country to visit the Shaurya Gatha Complex and explore offbeat destinations of Kupwara to support local tourism.
The Lieutenant Governor also praised the Indian Army for its role in the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign, stating that Tangdhar remains a sensitive zone affected by cross-border narco-smuggling attempts. He said enhanced surveillance and security measures are essential to prevent drug infiltration.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior Army officials, civil administration officers, and security forces, including Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-C Northern Command; Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, GOC Chinar Corps; and Javaid Ahmad Mirchal among others.
