SRINAGAR, MAY 11: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the Somnath Swabhiman Parv at Lok Bhavan, describing the historic Somnath Temple as a timeless symbol of India’s spiritual strength, resilience, and cultural identity.
Marking the occasion, the LG performed puja and addressed a gathering celebrating “1,000 years of unbroken faith and unyielding resolve,” stating that despite repeated invasions and destruction, the Somnath Temple has continued to stand as a guiding force for the nation.
He said the temple represents the “divinity of Bharat” and reflects the essence of India’s civilisational continuity. “Somnath is devotion, Somnath is strength, Somnath is the thirst for truth,” the LG remarked, adding that it has inspired generations and continues to ignite national spirit.

Referring to historical events, Sinha said the temple had been destroyed multiple times but always rebuilt through collective resolve. He highlighted the reconstruction of the shrine after Independence, crediting the vision of leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the consecration performed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1951.
“The rebuilding of Somnath is a symbol of inner victory and renewed faith. It stands as a beacon of India’s civilisational journey,” the LG said, adding that the temple continues to inspire the nation towards progress and unity.
The event was also attended by senior officials including ministers, administrative secretaries, and members of civil society.
