Jammu, Apr 6 : Traffic on the strategic Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was suspended after a landslide blocked the road in Ramban district, officials said on Monday.
They said heavy debris, including rocks and mud, slid down the hillside late Sunday night, blocking the stretch between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote and affecting both sides of the carriageway.
Following the incident, authorities halted vehicular movement from both ends of the highway as a precautionary measure to prevent any mishap.
Officials added that intermittent stone falls are continuing in the area, posing a risk to commuters as well as restoration teams.
Efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore traffic. Commuters have been advised to avoid travel on the highway until further updates, they said. (Agency)
