Jammu/Kishtwar, May 05, 2026:
Continuing its intensified crackdown on drug trafficking under the ongoing #NashaMukthAbhiyaan, District Police Kishtwar apprehended two more drug peddlers and recovered heroin-like substance from their possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Shri Naresh Singh (JKPS), said that during routine naka checking and patrolling in the Lower Malipeth area, a police team led by Incharge SHO Police Station Kishtwar, Inspector Sam Pal Gill, along with PSI Danish Qaiser Gazali and PSI Bhanu Verma, was on duty under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kishtwar, Dr. Ishan Gupta (JKPS).
During the operation, a motorcycle bearing registration number JK17B-7786, coming from Shalimar towards Malipeth, was signalled to stop. The rider attempted to flee, but the alert police team swiftly intercepted the vehicle and apprehended both the rider and the pillion rider.
Upon search, the rider, identified as Junaid Ramzan, son of Mohd Ramzan Butt, a resident of Naghbatna Kuntwara (at present Malipeth Kishtwar), was found in possession of approximately 5 grams of heroin (“chitta”)-like substance. The pillion rider, Musharraf Ahmed, son of Mohd Maqbool, a resident of Bilalabad Kishtwar, was found carrying around 1.5 grams of the same substance.
In this connection, FIR No. 100/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act (08/21/22/29) has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar, and further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages.
SSP Kishtwar reiterated that the district police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. He emphasized that strict legal action will continue against those involved in the narcotics trade and urged the public, particularly the youth, to stay away from drugs and assist the police by sharing information related to such activities.
