Kishtwar Police Book Former Journalist-Turned Social Activist for Misleading Video

Kishtwar, December 29, 2025: District Police Kishtwar have booked a former journalist-turned social activist for allegedly uploading and circulating a misleading video of a recent incident in the jurisdiction of Police Post Padyarna, with an intent to give it a communal colour and disturb public peace and order.

As per an official police advisory, members of one community were bringing wooden logs from a forest area when one log slipped and stopped near a Madrassa, leading to an altercation between two communities. The situation later escalated into stone pelting from both sides, in which a few persons sustained minor injuries.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Kishtwar Police registered FIR No. 262/25 under Sections 125, 125(a) and 191(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.

Meanwhile, police stated that a person from Kishtwar uploaded a video of the incident on social media, falsely claiming it to be an attack on a religious place and attempting to create communal tension. In this connection, FIR No. 263/25 under Section 353 BNS has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and the accused has been detained.

District Police Kishtwar have advised the general public to exercise utmost caution and responsibility while using social media platforms and warned that anyone found spreading misinformation or disturbing peace and harmony will be dealt with strictly as per law.
