Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan has urged stronger coordination with neighbouring states to combat drug trafficking networks, as part of the ongoing statewide anti-narcotics campaign ‘Operation Toofan’.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he has written to the governments of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry seeking enhanced cooperation to dismantle inter-state drug supply chains.
He stressed the need for real-time intelligence sharing, joint operations and coordinated planning to effectively curb the drug menace across state borders.
Satheesan also proposed a high-level meeting between police and home department officials of the respective states to prepare a joint action plan against drug trafficking networks.
As part of the initiative, senior police officers and tactical units from Kerala are expected to hold discussions with counterparts in neighbouring states to strengthen coordinated enforcement efforts.
‘Operation Toofan’ was launched earlier this month as a major anti-drug campaign aimed at dismantling narcotics networks operating within and outside the state, with coordinated involvement of the police, excise and health departments.
The drive comes amid a sharp rise in NDPS cases in Kerala, which recorded 36,314 cases in 2025 compared to 27,530 cases in 2024, according to official data.
Police records also indicate that Kerala reported the highest number of NDPS cases in the country in 2023, highlighting the scale of the drug-related challenge faced by the state.
Authorities have appealed for public cooperation as part of the campaign to curb drug trafficking and strengthen enforcement mechanisms across the region.
