Cold weather persisted across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Friday, with several places in the Kashmir Valley and higher reaches recording sub-zero minimum temperatures, officials said.
In the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 1.3°C, while the city’s airport registered −1.2°C. Tourist resort Gulmarg remained among the coldest spots in the Valley at −9.0°C, with Sonamarg recording a low of −10.6°C.
Pahalgam saw a minimum of −5.3°C, followed by Kupwara at −3.1°C and Shopian at −2.6°C. Baramulla recorded −1.4°C, while Bandipora and Ganderbal registered −0.5°C and −0.4°C, respectively. Qazigund recorded −0.3°C.
In south Kashmir, Anantnag and Kulgam recorded minimums of 0.3°C and 1.1°C, while Pulwama registered 0.1°C. Beerwah in Budgam district recorded −2.9°C.
In the Jammu region, temperatures remained relatively higher. Jammu city recorded a low of 9.3°C, while Katra registered 8.4°C. Banihal recorded 1.1°C, Batote 3.2°C, Bhaderwah −1.0°C, and Udhampur 3.6°C.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded −10.4°C, while Hanle was the coldest at −16.0°C. Kargil registered −9.2°C, and Nubra Valley −9.3°C.
Officials said the cold conditions are likely to persist across the region over the next few days. (Agencies)
