The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) on Monday cancelled the OMR-based examination for the post of Junior Engineer (Electrical), which was being held across 35 centres in Jammu and Srinagar.

In an official statement, the board said the exam, initially scheduled for 11:00 AM, was postponed to 12:00 Noon due to weather-related disruptions. “The examination was successfully conducted at 34 venues but could not be held at one venue. In view of this, the Board has decided to cancel the OMR-based examination for the posts of Junior Engineer (Electrical), Power Development Department, conducted on 24.08.2025, and it will be conducted afresh,” the order read. Fresh dates will be announced in due course.

Reports indicated that controversy erupted after a video surfaced on social media showing protests by some students alleging a question paper leak. JKSSB, however, clarified that the cancellation was due to unruly behaviour by certain candidates at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh, Srinagar. Some candidates snatched question papers from invigilators and fellow students, creating chaos inside and outside the examination halls.

The board explained that heavy rainfall in Jammu district on the morning of the exam caused severe waterlogging, while landslides blocked routes to Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kandoli Nagrota, preventing several candidates from reaching the venue. To address these weather-related issues, the board had rescheduled the exam from 11:00 AM – 01:00 PM to 12:00 Noon – 02:00 PM, and the revised timings were communicated to all centre superintendents and published on the official website.

While the exam proceeded smoothly at 34 venues, disruptions at the Kothi Bagh venue, which hosted 644 candidates, forced the board to cancel the examination after an extraordinary meeting. The new schedule for the Junior Engineer (Electrical) exam will be notified separately. (Agencies)
