J&K regions expected to witness heavy rainfall from August 17-19: MeT

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains and thundershowers in parts of Jammu and Kashmir from August 17-19. These conditions may trigger cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and falling rocks in vulnerable areas.

Officials said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places, with heavy rainfall likely in parts of the Jammu division, including Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Kathua. Moderate to intense showers are expected over Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and some areas of the Kashmir division, accompanied by brief heavy showers and gusty winds during this period.

They advised people to avoid water bodies, streams, nallahs, river embankments, and unstable structures for the time being. Travelers, transporters, tourists, and trekkers have also been asked to plan their journeys accordingly.

Officials added that from August 20-22, the weather is expected to be generally hot and humid, with brief thundershowers in a few areas.

From August 23-25, a fresh spell of light to moderate rain or thundershowers may affect many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. (Sources)
