In a significant enforcement drive to curb traffic violations and the illegal operation of e-rickshaws, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday conducted a comprehensive crackdown across various parts of Doda town to ensure public safety and maintain road discipline.

The special drive was launched on the directions of SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta (JKPS) and was jointly carried out by the team of Police Station Doda along with officials of the Traffic Wing under the supervision of DySP Traffic Doda.

During the operation, more than 50 violators were booked for offences including overloading, operating without valid documents, violation of route permits, and non-compliance with prescribed safety norms. Several e-rickshaws were also seized under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police officials stated that the drive aimed at ensuring road safety, regulating smooth traffic flow, safeguarding commuters and pedestrians, and preventing potential road accidents. Special emphasis was laid on checking the unauthorized and unsafe operation of e-rickshaws, which often contribute to traffic congestion and increased risk of mishaps in the town.

The SSP Doda reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue in the coming days and warned that strict legal action will be taken against habitual violators. He appealed to vehicle owners and drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules and cooperate with the police in maintaining discipline on the roads.

He further cautioned that legal action will also be initiated against owners who allow minors to operate e-rickshaws or e-autos, and even against the guardians of minors found driving such vehicles in violation of the law.
