Jammu, Mar 26: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said education must go beyond imparting knowledge and focus on preparing students for real-life challenges.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Jammu Chapter of the Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) at Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government PG College for Women, Gandhinagar.
“We should focus on soft skills, research, entrepreneurship, and a startup culture. The education sector must bring about broad transformation through mentoring and academia-industry collaboration,” the LG said.
Highlighting the need for collective effort, Sinha said today’s challenges are complex and multi-dimensional and require coordinated action to drive Jammu and Kashmir’s growth.
The Lieutenant Governor called for stronger collaboration across sectors to build a professionally trained workforce and position Jammu as a regional hub for training and development. He urged the ISTD Jammu Chapter to focus on job creation, entrepreneurship, and making local talent globally competitive, with emphasis on industry, startups, and agriculture.
“The industrial ecosystem is evolving rapidly. Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial landscape must continuously invest in new skills to enhance productivity,” he said. He added that farmers should also be trained in modern technologies, scientific practices, and resource management to tackle climate change, water scarcity, and soil degradation, and to improve market access.
On governance, the LG stressed the need for a citizen-centric administrative system. “Citizens expect transparency, accountability, and efficiency. The administrative machinery must evolve to meet these expectations,” he said.
He emphasized that trained and skilled human resources are the most powerful drivers of change. “The real instrument of transformation is a trained and developed professional mind. Human resources will be the foundation of progress and inclusive growth,” he added.
The event was attended by ISTD National President Atul Shah, Vice Chancellor Cluster University of Jammu Prof K.S. Chandrasekar, ISTD Jammu Chapter Chairman Prof Ashok Aima, and other senior officials, academicians, and students. (Agency)
