J&K Government directs inclusion of children aged 6 and above in the public distribution system.

Jammu, May 06: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday issued an order to include children aged 6 years and above, as well as any previously excluded beneficiaries, into the Public Distribution System (PDS) across the Union Territory.

According to the order, issued by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, children who are 6 years old or above, or who will turn 6, are to be added to the PDS under their respective AAY, PHH, NPHH, or Exclusion family ration cards.

The order also mandates that any eligible beneficiaries who have not yet been covered under the PDS be included in the system as per the prescribed norms.

In cases where widows or divorcees are not yet covered under the PDS, the department has instructed that they be issued separate ration cards under the PHH, NPHH, or Exclusion category, depending on their financial status and in accordance with the National Food Security Act (NFSA) regulations. This move aims to ensure that these beneficiaries are provided with the necessary support under the PDS.
