J&K: GMC Rajouri and NHM Conduct Professional Development Programme for Healthcare Staff

Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM), Jammu & Kashmir, organised a one-day Professional Development Programme (PDP) for medical staff at the Lecture Hall, Mehra Campus.

The programme was aimed at healthcare professionals from the Pir Panjal region, covering Rajouri and Poonch districts, with a focus on enhancing skills, knowledge, and preparedness to strengthen healthcare delivery in this challenging terrain prone to natural calamities.

The event, part of the Health and Medical Education Department’s initiatives, reflects the ongoing commitment of GMC Rajouri and NHM J&K to professional development and improving primary healthcare services.

Mission Director NHM J&K, Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary, highlighted the importance of capacity building in improving healthcare outcomes and praised the efforts of health professionals working under difficult conditions in the Pir Panjal region. He also spoke about the Ayushman Bharat – Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) initiative, which integrates services for non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, adolescent health, mental health, palliative care, and emergency services, aiming to keep communities healthier and better prepared for health crises.

Dr Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, Kakryal, described the JK SEHAT App as a revolutionary step in making healthcare accessible, transparent, and patient-friendly, especially in regions where mountainous terrains and border areas limit physical access.

The programme covered key topics including:

  • JK SEHAT App – Ensuring health coverage and accessibility

  • Disaster Management & Experience Sharing

  • Role of Indian Army in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR)

  • Implementation of Comprehensive Primary Health Care under NHM

  • Orientation on NHM Programs in J&K

  • Violence Against Healthcare Professionals & Preventive Measures

Principal GMC Rajouri, Prof. (Dr) A.S. Bhatia, stressed the importance of regular professional development to equip doctors and health staff with the tools needed to address the unique health challenges of the Pir Panjal region, including natural calamities and disasters.

The sessions provided valuable insights into NHM’s functioning and scope, emphasizing strengthened healthcare service delivery at the grassroots level. (Agencies)
