Srinagar, September 22, 2026: Jammu & Kashmir Bank held its 88th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, with the bank outlining major plans for recruitment and capital strengthening.
A key announcement at the AGM was the bank’s decision to begin recruitment for Banking Assistants and Officers in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. J&K Bank Managing Director and CEO Amitava Chatterjee said the recruitment process is being undertaken after a gap since 2021.
The bank has completed negotiations and signed an agreement with the agency that will conduct the recruitment examinations. According to Chatterjee, the official recruitment notification is expected to be issued within the next few days. The bank may also consider limited recruitment in other states to meet requirements related to local-language proficiency.
The AGM also comes as J&K Bank seeks approval for a major capital-raising plan of up to ₹1,000 crore. The proposal involves raising Tier-I capital through equity shares or other permitted securities, including routes such as Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) or private placement, subject to applicable regulatory requirements.
The proposed capital infusion is aimed at strengthening the bank’s capital base and supporting its future growth plans. The bank’s official disclosures show that its Board had considered and approved the capital-raising proposal in August 2026.
The 88th AGM also included consideration of the bank’s audited financial statements for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, along with reports of the Board of Directors, auditors and the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
The twin developments—fresh recruitment and a proposed ₹1,000 crore capital raise—mark significant steps in J&K Bank’s plans to strengthen its workforce and financial capital while expanding its banking operations across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and other parts of the country.
