Srinagar, Feb 2: On the first day of the Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, which is expected to be stormy, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Monday warned that indiscipline in the House will not be tolerated.
Addressing the Legislative Assembly, Rather said that while differences are a natural part of democracy, they must be expressed in a dignified manner. “There was a time when people would learn about Assembly proceedings the next day through newspapers. Today, they are watching us live in their homes. We should not humiliate or disrespect one another,” he said.
The Speaker emphasized that people expect the Assembly to resolve their problems. “People want solutions, not disruptions. You cannot satisfy them by creating disturbances. Constituents are closely watching how you raise their issues,” he added.
Assuring members that adequate time will be provided to raise their concerns during the Budget Session, Rather said the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has decided that the first part of the budget session will have two sittings.
Reiterating his stance, the Speaker said maintaining discipline in the House is his primary responsibility. “I will not allow indiscipline under any circumstances,” he said. (Agencies)
