Jammu-Srinagar Highway Blocked by Landslide in Ramban; Restoration Work Underway: Officials

Restoration work underway on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban after massive landslide blocks both lanes; commuters advised to avoid night travel.

Ramban, April 6: Deputy Traffic Inspector (DTI) Vinay Gupta on Monday said restoration work is underway after a massive landslide blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Sunday night.

Speaking to , he advised travelers to stay updated via social media and avoid nighttime travel whenever possible.

“A heavy landslide occurred around 12:30 AM, causing a major blockage near Karol Bridge. The National Highway Authority is working to clear the debris with heavy machinery, but it will take some time to restore normal traffic. Previously, minor slides were common, but last night’s landslide was large-scale. Commuters are urged to check social media for updates and avoid traveling at night,” DTI Vinay Gupta said.

The landslide dropped rocks and mud onto the highway, completely blocking both lanes and disrupting traffic in both directions. Authorities immediately halted movement along the affected stretch as a safety precaution.

Further updates on restoration and reopening of the highway are awaited.

Earlier, on March 31, NH-44 was blocked due to a landslide in the Mehar area of Ramban district triggered by heavy rainfall.

In a post on X, Jammu and Kashmir Police advised commuters to avoid traveling on NH-44 until weather conditions improve and the road is cleared. They urged travelers to check the current road status via the Traffic Police’s official X handle, Facebook page, or TCU helplines in Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban.

“Traffic has been halted from both sides on NH-44 due to landslides, falling rocks, and continuous rainfall. People are advised to avoid travel until the road is cleared,” J&K Traffic Police said. (Agency)
